Open Position: Social Media Intern

Social Media Intern (10-15 hours per week)

Grand Center Inc. (GCI) is a non-profit organization that creates the conditions for a thriving creative community in Grand Center Arts District, located in the heart of Midtown St. Louis. GCI focuses on community connections, District improvements, and the sustainability of our organization and the Grand Center Arts District.

Our work includes infrastructure improvements, managing security, installation of public art, activation of public space, district tours, collaborative district marketing, economic development, and convening arts partners to work together on larger, district-focused programs.

Job Purpose: The Social Media Intern supports the marketing and communications efforts of Grand Center Inc. through the use of approved social media platforms. This internship role offers exposure to marketing through the use of social media, providing a mutually beneficial learning experience and introduction to an office environment.

This role reports directly to the Marketing Manager of Grand Center Inc.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Follow the organization’s Digital Media strategy and Communication Plan, taking direction from the Marketing Manager to ensure on-brand and appropriate posts and messaging.
  • Post social media content (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn) for @grandcenterartsdistrict and GCI channels under the direction of the Marketing Manager.
  • Monitor and engage with social media contacts and messages.
  • Assist with integrating Digital Media Strategy through website calendar updates and event tagging.
  • Updating website calendar content; checking event scraper and partner websites for current events.
  • Assist with gathering monthly analytics for social channels and websites.
  • Engage with identified influencers and collaborators for social media content.
  • Assist with utilizing the website and social media to provide messages/updates and attract patrons/followers/visitors.
  • Deliver timely and engaging social media posts regarding GCI programs, events, and fundraising activities.
  • Research digital trends, demographics, best practices, and technologies.
  • Support GCI team in event support as needed, including annual gala, fundraising events, and other programming activities.

Qualified candidates meet the following criteria:

  • Enrolled in a college or university with a current junior or senior status majoring in marketing, advertising, communications, journalism or similar degree.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms in a professional setting (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, Instagram, etc.)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat Creative Suite.
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Active on social media.
  • Knowledge of web analytics.
  • Ability to craft compelling content.
  • Creative eye and ability to keep the organization “on brand.”
  • Desire to learn in an office environment.
  • Ability to effectively align with and represent the organization’s mission and values.

Salary and Schedule:

Part-time position, starting at $15 hourly.

The candidate should be able to begin work no later than March 2023. Weekly scheduling for this position is negotiable (ie. M-F 2-3 hours each, MWF 3-5 hours each, etc.)
